Meet Your New Fort Collins Electrologists!
Josie (she/her)
Owner/Founder of Plucky Cat + Hair Removal Tech
Josie became passionate about electrology the same way most do; experiencing the magic of never again having to shave, pluck, wax, depilate, burn, or otherwise beat back those damn hairs! She knows personally how life-changing it can be to never have to worry about stubble or stray hairs again. In her view, electrolysis is a medical treatment and it should be treated as one. As a registered nurse, she strives to hold her electrolysis practice to the same standards of quality, safety, and hygiene as any other medical procedure. Her background as an RN provides her with the advanced understanding of infection control, wound care, and complicating health factors needed to hold electrolysis to this standard.

Mad (they/them)
Hair Removal Tech + Partnerships Coordinator

Mad is a fat, queer, and nonbinary person who has lived experience with the challenges of navigating gender-affirming care and the medical system. Mad’s goal in becoming an electrologist is to ensure that everybody can get the care they need to feel themselves. Before moving into med-spa work, Mad had many years of nonprofit management, fundraising and journalism experience, informing their human-first approach to care. Mad is a people person who enjoys fostering relationships in the community, like with our nonprofit partners at The Iris Center in Fort Collins. Outside of Plucky Cat, Mad spends their time as a proud skater and member of FoCo Roller Derby (where they met Josie) and as a freelance journalist.
What Makes Plucky Cat Different
Read on below to find out what makes Plucky Cat the premier electrolysis clinic in Northern Colorado.
Advanced Certification + Training
Even though the state of Colorado does not require electrologists to be licensed or certified, both Josie and Mad each chose to pursue advanced certification and complete a 400-hour training program through the California Electrolysis Academy.
This extra level of education reflects our commitment to higher standards, precision, and providing the safest, most effective care possible. CEA set us up with unique personal and professional experience so we can provide you with the highest quality hair removal available in a space that is comfortable, inclusive, and accessible.
Trans Owned + Operated
Josie began Plucky Cat because she wanted to provide a permanent hair removal resource in Northern Colorado that could do a better job for the trans community. Mad joined Plucky Cat after they saw what a difference Josie was making for those seeking permanent hair removal. Together, we believe that the best trans care is delivered by trans people themselves. If you feel the same, then whether you’re zapping an entire beard away or prepping for bottom surgery, we’re here for you.
While we proudly specialize in gender-affirming care, we also serve anyone looking for permanent hair removal—because everyone deserves to feel comfortable in their skin.
Intentional Accessibility
There is a ground-level entrance to our office, two accessible, gender-neutral and private bathrooms on the same floor, and our table is ADA-compliant. With Josie’s background as a Registered Nurse, we also have plenty of experience assisting those with limited mobility.
As two neurodivergent hair removal techs, we know first-hand how to serve folks with sensory needs. We keep our office stocked with stim toys and a weighted blanket, and we’re always happy to accommodate silent or low-stimulation appointments. Accessibility is important to us, so please don’t hesitate if there are any areas we can improve!
Advanced Technology
Our electrolysis machine is the most modern, advanced machine on the market today. With a dozen modalities to choose from and 27.12 MHz at our fingertips, We’re able to offer you the gentlest and most effective hair removal out there. We also use (and sell!) high-quality skincare products formulated specifically to help your skin prepare for and recover from hair removal treatments.
We Take Clean Seriously
All of our electrolysis probes come in sterile, single-use packaging. Any implements that come in contact with your skin, such as tweezers and electrodes, are sterilized in an FDA-approved and regularly-tested autoclave. Finally, anything that can’t go in the autoclave gets wiped down with a hospital-grade antiseptic between each appointment.
