How long will electrolysis take?
Because everyone’s hair density and hair growth cycles are different, I refrain from giving time estimates. Certain areas may take longer due to fine or lightly-colored hairs, because they are difficult to reach, or because the follicles turn over slowly or new ones are activated by hormones. At your consultation, I will describe the treatment timeline in more detail and how your progress will be marked. Remember that electrolysis is a long-term process, but it’s the only one that can get you 100% hair-free!
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Please allow your hair to grow out for 3-5 days, or long enough to be grasped with tweezers. Drink plenty of water to ensure your skin is hydrated; this takes time, so start hydrating 2-3 days before your appointment. Avoid caffeine prior to your appointment, as this can reduce your pain tolerance. Light skincare (moisturizers, toners) are OK to use before your appointment, but avoid makeup or deodorant. You may use a numbing cream if you’d like.
How should I use my numbing cream?
Apply a thick layer ~30-60 minutes before your appointment and cover with plastic wrap (I recommend Glad Press-n-Seal). If you’re not starting to feel sufficiently numb after 20-30 minutes, you can apply more and re-cover. I recommend leaving the plastic wrap on until you arrive for your appointment, and letting me peel it back slowly as I work.
Is your office wheelchair accessible?
Yes! There is a ground-level entrance to my office, an accessible bathroom, and my table is ADA-compliant. As a nurse, I also have plenty of experience assisting those with limited mobility. Accessibility is important to me, so please don’t hesitate to let me know if there are any areas I can improve!
Do you sell any skincare products for electrolysis?
Yes! I sell an exfoliant and a numbing cream that are both great to use before appointments. I also sell the same soothing lotion and aloe balm that I use at the end of treatment–both are also great for sunburns!
How long of an appointment should I book?
One hour is the most common timeframe people book if trying to clear an area. I would recommend waiting to book longer appointments until you are sure that you can tolerate it, as our pain tolerance tends to diminish over time. If you only have a few hairs you want treated, a half hour appointment may be appropriate.
Do you offer appointments shorter than half an hour?
Unfortunately, my half hour session is the shortest appointment that I can viably offer. However, if your appt does in fact take less than half an hour, we can roll the time over to a future appointment.
