What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the only FDA-recognized solution for 100% permanent hair removal. Each follicle is treated individually, using a focused current to destroy the cells that make your hair grow. Electrolysis can treat hairs anywhere on the body, and all skin colors and hair types can be safely and effectively treated with electrolysis.
Does Electrolysis Hurt?
Yes, it does hurt a bit. The sensation is usually described like a small rubber band snap, but how much it hurts varies by person and by area. Arriving to your appointment properly hydrated and avoiding caffeine beforehand are some of the best ways to reduce pain.
You may use numbing cream if desired. Apply 1 hour before appt and cover with plastic wrap
How can I prepare for my appointment?
- 4-7d before: shave the area to be treated (NO plucking, waxing, or threading)
- 48h before: start hydrating, avoid retinols and glycolic acids
- Day of: Avoid caffeine, no makeup or deodorant
Why do you require consultations?
Most importantly, I want to ensure that electrolysis is safe for you, and to do this I need to review your medical history. During the consultation, we’ll also go over how to prepare for your appointment, what to expect during electrolysis, and how to care for your skin afterwards. Finally, I’ll create a personalized treatment plan that will get you started on the path to being hair-free!
Is your office wheelchair accessible?
Yes! There is a ground-level entrance to my office, an accessible bathroom, and my table is ADA-compliant. As a nurse, I also have plenty of experience assisting those with limited mobility. Accessibility is important to me, so please don’t hesitate if there are any areas I can improve!
How is this different from laser?
While laser may lead to hair reduction, it requires dark hair against a light complexion and cannot guarantee complete removal (in some, it may even stimulate hair growth). Electrolysis treats each hair follicle individually, ensuring its complete destruction, and works equally well on all skin colors and hair types.
